Lim Ah Cheng graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art, Kuala Lumpur in 1990. He went on to study illustration in Tatsun Studio, Kuala Lumpur.

He had participated in many exhibitions and won a few Malaysian National Art Awards. His works can be found in private collections in the United States, England, Singapore, Germany, New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

In 1988, Lim won the third award from the Art national Day Open. By then, he also won the Initiative award from Shah Alam Gallery. Lim has a deep fascination of horses. His in-depth portrayal of horses is engage such that in 2008, one of his horse paintings was auctioned for twice its estimated value at Guangdong Jin'an Auction Co. some of his earlier exhibitions are listed below.
